How can I safely delete suspect messages without opening them when they appear in the Inbox of Outlook Express?
The only way to do this, unfortunately, is to get rid of the preview pane. This means messages are only opened when you double-click on them. To do this, click on View, Layout and then, in the Window Layout Properties dialog box, uncheck the option Show preview pane.
The principal risk of opening messages in the preview pane is if embedded script code is being executed, as with the Love Bug virus. An alternative solution would be to use some checking software such as AVP Script Checker, which has now been made available free of charge and can be downloaded from www.kasperskylabs.com.
